Outdoor Wood Furnaces
|
|
For many years Alternate Heating Systems has
manufactured what we believe is one of the most efficient outdoor wood furnaces on the market. However, because
of current State-level and local government regulatory changes
and what we believe will be greater regulation of outdoor
wood furnaces from the EPA
in the future (see information
below), we have decided to discontinue manufacturing our
outdoor wood furnace line. We instead recommend to you our
premium wood gasification boiler.
Our premium wood gasification boilers produce only about
one-fourth the maximum particulate emissions allowed by the EPA for
wood combustion and can be placed outside if housed in a
weather-proof structure. |
What is wood gasification?
It is a process for burning wood in which gases from the
wood are burned rather than the wood itself which causes
much more efficient combustion. (Click
the link for more information.)
The following is regulatory and other information that
might be helpful in determining what type of wood boiler you
wish to purchase.

YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL ELIOT SPITZER TARGETS AIR POLLUTION PROBLEM IN RURAL COMMUNITIES
August 11, 2005
"Attorney General Eliot Spitzer today released a
report documenting air pollution and health problems
associated with outdoor wood boilers in New York State
and called on the federal Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) to regulate the pollution the boilers
produce. The states of Connecticut, Maryland,
Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey and Vermont and the
Northeast States For Coordinated Air Use Management, an
interstate association of air quality control divisions
in the northeast states, also joined New York in the
petition to the EPA." (click the headline above to

He was named "Crusader of the Year" by Time magazine; the "Sheriff of Wall Street" by 60 Minutes; and "The Enforcer" by People magazine. Reader’s Digest magazine called him America’s "Best Public Servant."
