"I would like to recognize the great customer service that Alternate Heating Systems has provided me in the installation and start up of the E180 furnace. After a season that was essentially a learning curve, we requested that someone from Alternate Heating Systems view the installation and evaluate if all was proper. Carl Forney visited my home... on December 15, 2008.

As I have gotten older, I have appreciated great customer service more. Unfortunately, it seems to be a rarer event these days. However, Carl was a perfect example of customer service. when he showed up at the house, he 'owned' any issues we were having. I was not treated as a customer but as a friend or family who was going to get all the help he could provide. I am convinced that whatever it would take to make sure that I am satisfied is exactly what he plans on doing.

My thanks to Alternate Heating Systems and Carl for the assistance in making certain that the furnace was operating at top efficiency."

"We are a Hardwood Lumber Dealer in Maine, and have been using a E 250 Wood Gun® for 8 years now. We have been very happy with the service it provides. We burn all our wood scraps and paper scraps. It will burn wood no matter how big or small, dry or green. We have also been very pleased with the technical assistance and parts availabilities that Jeff has provided for us over the years. I am so pleased with the performance of the boiler that I am taking out the boiler in my home and putting in a wood gun."

"Our Alternate Heating Systems, LLC. waste oil boiler was installed in 1988. We recycle about 7,000 gallons of used oil (annually) from our fast lube business and have no cost for conventional fuel."

"Our used oil boiler paid for itself in 4 months of use. The 300,000 BTU/H boiler delivers more hot water than our existing 1MM BTU/H gas-fi water heater."

From an Eshland boiler owner (*also see note below):

"We have two Eshland wood burning boilers. One is a 250 which heats our home. The other is a 500 - it heats three large buildings on the farm. We pipe the water underground to each. We brood chicks in two of the buildings, while the other is for the washing, grading and packing of our eggs. We use this boiler five months out of the year."

"Both boilers were made of carbon steel, but the steel only lasted four years before leaking. We had them converted to stainless steel to remedy the problem. We have had these boilers over twenty years and were the first to convert them to stainless steel. We burn between sixty and eighty cords of wood annually. I recommend these boilers to anyone who wants to burn wood."

*While the Eshland Enterprises wood burner/boiler was very well-designed, it had one shortcoming that is still present in some burners/boilers on the market today - the interior (the vessel) was made of inferior carbon steel instead of stainless steel. Alternate Heating Systems realized the overall quality of the Eshland wood burner/boiler design despite this one flaw, and so constituted that all the Wood Gasification Boiler vessels be built with 1/4" 304 Stainless Steel.
From Maine:

When my wife and I moved to Downeast Maine 24 years ago, we celebrated putting a lifetime of cramped city living behind us. But when our first winter oil bills began to arrive, we feared we would have to pack up and leave our large, high-ceilinged 1850 farmhouse. We started looking around at once for an alternative to oil heat, and by January of that year we had installed a WoodGun E-180, then in its first incarnation.

Now, there were decided problems with that first boiler, which was made of mild steel and subject to corrosion, but the basic design was the soundest possible combination of simplicity and technical savvy, and we didn't look back. It's true that we had to employ many heroic measures to keep that old mild-steel version going, but it was worth it because it let us stay in our spacious country quarters without breaking the bank. And when we upgraded to Alternative Energy's new STAINLESS STEEL model some years ago, our maintenance problems vanished once and for all. The new WoodGun is the real promise of the original design finally brought to fulfillment.

The bottom line is that the Wood Gun is the most STRAIGHTFORWARD and FORGIVING wood boiler we know of. We have put hundreds of cords of hardwood, much of it green, through her and have never had a trace of a creosote problem, though her exhaust has to travel through a 40-foot-tall, north-facing, outside chimney! Chimney cleaning is a breeze quite simply because nothing comes out of the Wood Gun but fly ash and a little dry soot when I get lazy about cleaning out her pipes. Never is she finicky or demanding. Our house in cozy throughout, our hot water is REALLY hot, year 'round, and the comforting warmth the WoodGun herself gives off even on standby keeps our large basement work areas toasty-dry and forever free of rust and mold. No high-tech heat source could ever deliver so much all-around comfort at so little expense and with such moderate maintenance.

For us in the far Northeast, the WoodGun has been a keeper and a winner.
